1888 Rebellion?

Brothers and sisters,

I’ve been prayerfully restudying the 1888 era lately, and I’m left with some honest questions I’d love to hear your thoughts on. Ellen White wrote some very strong statements about what happened in Minneapolis and afterward:

“The time of test is just upon us, for the loud cry of the third angel has already begun in the revelation of the righteousness of Christ, the sin-pardoning Redeemer. This is the beginning of the light of the angel whose glory shall fill the whole earth.” (1888 Materials, p. 1073)

“An unwillingness to yield up preconceived opinions, and to accept this truth, lay at the foundation of a large share of the opposition manifested at Minneapolis against the Lord’s message through Brethren Waggoner and Jones… By exciting that opposition Satan succeeded in shutting away from our people, in a great measure, the special power of the Holy Spirit that God longed to impart to them.” (1888 Materials, p. 1575)

No one will answer me or they say this is not important. I have been praying and I can't let this go. Please, could someone help me understand why Ellen G White said this?

I think Satan closed the minds of the SDA to Jones and Waggoners 1888 message, about genuine faith.

Do you understand what genuine faith is?

Faith is a forgotten process in our Church, it's not even a fundamental in our baptism creed?
Most people who become SDA do not understand faith at all - they only think they do.

Satan succeeded in shutting away from our people, in a great measure, is true, 19/20 SDA people are lost according to EGW.
We need to read the link above and re-discover Jones' message about genuine faith. SHalom

I had a look, older couple, over 80 or 90 years old.
They have evidence the EGW writings have been changed alot over the years.
Hmm? It does not matter much - God is the tutor of truth when you trust Him.

The Bible I suspect has suffered the same over the years - hence why I read Ancient Hebrew.

Now I could find nothing where they publish articles on faith.

I suggest you read my link - which comes from the Lord by the way and discuss what you have learned with me.

Shalom

"Thank you for sharing your thoughts and link, brother—I'll prayerfully study it as you suggest. I appreciate the emphasis on rediscovering faith as a core truth, and it does echo some of what Jones and Waggoner brought in 1888 about righteousness by faith being more than intellectual assent.To your point on genuine faith: Yes, I see how it ties to the 'nature of Christ' they debated—assuming Christ's sinful flesh yet sinless life, enabling us to overcome through His righteousness imputed and imparted. EGW affirmed this in places like Desire of Ages, p. 311: 'The humanity of the Son of God is everything to us... We should come to Christ as we are, and believe that He will fulfill His promises.'On the Testimonypress site: I hear you on changes to EGW writings—it's concerning if they've been altered, but their focus seems on restoring originals, including 1888 materials. Have you compared their versions to yours? Might be worth discussing if it aligns with your Ancient Hebrew insights.

Why do you think the church still resists this message today, per EGW's warnings? Satan shutting it away feels so relevant—let's unpack that together. Shalom."

Happy Sabbath!

Greetings my friend

You said "Why do you think the church still resists this message today, per EGW's warnings? Satan shutting it away feels so relevant—let's unpack that together.

People are forced by faith from the Devil to have a sense of independent power that humans call "self human powers"

Without God empowering your works, with His Divinity, your doings mean nothing to the Lord. You have to be always dependent upon Him. This is the only way a sinless domain in the next new earth exists. However people don't like this idea of being dependent upon God (faith) they prefer a sense of independent power ( loving two masters) - hence they despise genuine faith - why the faith message presented by Jones failed.

Israel too despised faith too -

Nu 11:5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick: 6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

Manna was a literal symbolic food given to Israel as faith they could eat, but they did not like manna - they did not like faith
If you ask a Jew to this day , they do the commandments using human powers of doing. Not by faith in asking God's divine power to come into their lives. The difference is subtle, on the outside the humans look and do the same, but on the inside God's power is imputed to you because you ask for it. This is genuine faith.

You post : "I see how it ties to the 'nature of Christ' they debated—assuming Christ's sinful flesh yet sinless life,

This is a common Mason foot note that slipped into Bible READINGS for the Home Circle 1914 edition, page 300? where they say Jesus took sinful flesh. This is a myth. EGW speaks Jesus took the likeness of sinful flesh, and she never comments upon the Greek words:

Ro 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: (KJV as it reads )

Now the Greek word "hamartia and hamartano" are translated words from the OT Hebrew "chataah and chata" respectively.

So the translation with Hebrew intent is

Ro 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sin-offering flesh, and for sin-offering, condemned sin-offering in the flesh:

Much confusion arises using the NT when many Hebrew words are lost in translation.

EGW: "In His intercession as our Advocate Christ needs no man’s virtue, no man’s intercession. Christ is the only sin bearer, the only sin-offering. Prayer and confession are to be offered only to Him who has entered once for all into the holy place. Christ has declared, “If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” He will save to the uttermost all who come to Him in faith. He ever liveth to make intercession for us. This makes of no avail the offering of mass, one of the falsehoods of Romanism. {7BC 913.5}

EGW: "The symbol of the uplifted serpent made plain to Nicodemus the Saviour’s mission. When the people of Israel were dying from the sting of the fiery serpents, God directed Moses to make a serpent of brass and place it on high in the midst of the congregation. All who would look should live. The serpent was a symbol of Christ. As the image made in the likeness of the destroying serpents was lifted up for their healing, so One made “in the likeness of sinful flesh” was to be their Redeemer. Romans 8:3. God desired to lead the Israelites to the Saviour. Whether for healing of wounds or pardon of sins, they could do nothing for themselves but show their faith in the Gift of God. They were to look and live. {HLv 110.1}

She uses the term "likeness of sinful flesh" 107 times, but it takes careful study to investigate why - she is referring to "chattaah"

The "sin-offering" process is little understood by us humans - so do not be alarmed - we spend all eternity studying this word.

I have posted an article on Hoehn Library works - I find it a distraction - God is the source of truth even if the message is corrupt, God is able to find truth. You ask for wisdom by faith (James 1)

It would be a better use of your time to learn how to get Divine Miracles from Jesus every day and become passionate in His powers like I do every day !!

It took me 45 years in the SDA to learn this, before that I was dabbling - now the Lord has revealed genuine faith to me.

Most people see faith as something we believe, not something we do.

Faith is a daily process. Not just mental assent.

I have used EGW every day for hours and hours and I have not found any so called errors has every impacted my studies.
God helps you to see and know things. He is your source of wisdom. The message is only a tool to help. It is not the truth per se'

EGW: "The Bible is written by inspired men, but it is not God’s mode of thought and expression. It is that of humanity. God, as a writer, is not represented. Men will often say such an expression is not like God. But God has not put Himself in words, in logic, in rhetoric, on trial in the Bible. The writers of the Bible were God’s penmen, not His pen. Look at the different writers. {1SM 21.1}

Shalom
